§ Ideas: How to Write a fugue

• Video
• Start with a melodic line (e.g. E in bass)
• Repeat melodic line (e.g. B in treble)
• Reiterate the subject fifth higher, an answer.
• Then go down a fifth (minor), a counter answer.
• Switch the key.
• Use suspensions to "reposition" voices across chords.
• Invert the subject.
• Change modes! (modal imitation).
• Raise everything by a tone / major 3rd / ...
