§ Playing Pop on the Piano
- Key idea: only allowed to play chords that share at least one note.
- In some cases, permissible to play a chord that is at a distance of 1 (semi)tone away.
- This forces one to know how to play all inversions of I, IV, V, i, VI, vi!
- Conceptualize an inversion as a slash chord, so taking
CEG
as an example, don't try and think EGC
(this is hard), but rather think E / CEG
(somehow, this is way easier!) - This is a good thing, but is also super super confusing when one starts out
:)
